Question by Kyle H: I’m starting a buisness, how do I buy new video games straight from the publishers?
I would like to know how to go about being able to get products for a video game store I want to start. For example when a new game comes out I want to be able to get it at a cheap price and be able to sell it at the retail price the day it comes out.

You can not buy straight from the publishers. You can only buy from distributors. Publishers sell only to distributors which buy cargo container loads of games, were talking millions here. You as a retailer can buy from the distributors. There are many distributors, but the top are Ingram, Navarre, Jack of All Games, Mecca, SVG, and D&H. The mark up on video games are very low, usually 10% – 15%. So if you wanted to buy, lets say for example Gears of War for the Xbox 360 for resale, your cost would be $50 – $52 dollars. Systems are worst. A PS2 retails for $130, your cost is $120., Xbox 360 premium retails for $400, your cost would be $370 – $380. The profits are all from used games and volume. This is how Gamestop makes their money. They buy their customers used games for half price and resell them for double. So if you took in Gears of War, they would give you about $20 dollars and resale it for $45 – $50. Pretty smart don’t you think? I am starting my own game store pretty soon and have been working at another for a while now + Months of internet research, that is how I know all this. Good Luck to you.
