Studies show that Americans eat out more than they eat in. Why do people watch cooking shows if they do not cook?

Cuz their mama’s aren’t teaching them cook. They’re out working. It’s the truth.

Because cooking can attract people.
There’s nothing so sweet as to watch a cooking show while running your butt off on a treadmill at the gym.
My daughter has a cooking show on live television on a local station. Most people watch her because it is live and full of bloopers.
It is the phenomenon of instant gratification. People want to think they can cook. And most people probably could if they had the time to learn but, most people don’t have the time to really learn. Instead they pick up some cooking tips while becoming more hip to what is out there.
I watch specific shows on the Food Network to gain information – such as Alta Brown, he gives the chemistry factors in the cooking process, the why of it. Paula Dean for her southern home style cooking. Everyday Italian, Giada De Laurentiis and Michael Chiarela for the Italian cuisine, etc…
Not all surveys represent every one in America or any where else for that matter. If the sample size is small, and the confidence level low, then the survey really has little merit.

I find cooking shows are very interesting to watch. You can learn new recipes, find out what you can add to recipes to make them more tasty or get some ideas on what you could make. I just love watching people cook as it’s not some made up cartoon thing. You can watch people cook real food which someday you might make. My favourite cooking show is Ready, steady cook. It is like a game show which makes it more entertaining to watch!
