Question by slamball3000: any risks with cooking shrimp?
i plan on making a dish with cooking shrimp tomorrow and since i don’t usually work with it, i was wondering if shrimp is known for causing any food poisoning problems, etc. if done wrong. The dish seems pretty straight forward to me, but just wondering.

Just make sure it smells fresh and keep it cold until you cook it. Then, don’t allow it to sit at room temperature too long.

  1. Well if you don’t cook any meat or fish fully, there is always a chance that you can get salmonella which could cause a lot of sicknesses. When you cook the shrimp make sure that it is pinkish on the outside. You can always cut into one of the shrimps too to make sure the inside is also pink and not purple.

  2. depending on how experienced you are this may be a problem. you should have created the dish a few days before the party to try it out and see what would happen and test it out before feeding it to your guests

  3. You should have no problem cooking shrimp if you are comfortable cooking and caring for poultry. Care for it in the same way you would chicken. That is, keep it cold until you cook it and keep it hot or cold after it is cooked (avoid room temperature), cook it thoroughly, promptly refrigerate leftovers, etc.

  4. Shrimp is very safe. Just make sure it’s fresh and has been refrigerated properly. I eat sushi, which is raw fish. I’m 54 and I’ve never been sick from sushi.

    Of course I only eat in reliable Japanese restaurants.

    If it smells fresh, cook and enjoy it.

  5. It should remain cold until you are ready too cook then rinse under cold running water in a colander before cooking this will remove any particulates then cook as directed in the recipe when the reach a deep pink they are done – they should be firm not mushy. Good Luck!
