What have been your experiences with HP computers or laptops.. how many years did your laptop last?how was customer service? If you had any problems were you able to resolve them? And overall how was the experience with your HP laptop?

my Friend works for hp and they are terrible. he is an engineer at hp and he has issues dealing with calling in when there are problems with his work network, so you can imagine how they handle customer service. in addition to bad customer service, they have the highest hardware failure rates of any major computer manufacturer.

I personally think HP is good with the design .. but uses cheap parts internally. They use quality CD drives, monitors (their monitors are great) .. and so forth — but motherboards,.. ram, Powersupply, and video cards are very poor in HP computers.
I have had the top of the line HP model from 2007 die twice. First time, on board video chip died. Second PSU died, had to put another card in and get a CPU.
I have also had a top of the line HP laptop go very bad on me.. the graphics card started overheating (and/or the CPU) and it still runs to this day, just at a crawl. It is an internal problem, and I have no bothered to put more thermal compound and figure out if the fans and heatsinks are having issues.. but each issue took about 2 yrs.
I like, in laptops, Toshiba. Quality parts.
In Desktops it is your best guess — I always build them. Having a true friend (or professional) build you a machine is always best on a desktop..
*Or, go with a MAC.

I have 2 HP laptops, One is 7 years old with XP and 2 Gb of RAM. It still works fine, although a bit slow compared to the modern stuff. The other is 3 months old with windows 7 and also works fine. It’s a lot faster as it has an I5 480m processor and 6 Gb of RAM. I have never had reason to use customer service. I am very happy with HP laptops after I clean all the factory installed garbage software off them. That’s something you need to do with any new computer.
